Day 2Sun Moon Lake > Cingjing
Day 3Cingjing > Taroko National Park > Hualien
Day 4: Hualien

Day 7: Taipei (Beitou > Tamsui)
Day 8: Taipei (Shinkong Mitsukoshi > Ximending > Shilin Night Market)
Day 9: Taipei > Taoyuan Airport
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Started off the day with searching for breakfast. But laziness got to us and we settled for something familiar.. McDonald!!

After which, we headed for the train station to take the ride to Ruifang train station as our destination for the day is Jiu Fen. Revisited Jiu Fen although the last trip we been there already, but it turned dark when we reached (Click here to see the night time photos), and not to mention the downpour that force us to just make our way through without anything much.

This time round, we didn't hire a driver as we had time to do our own travelling. Going to Jiufen via public transport was a breeze. A train ride to Ruifang and a shuttle bus that goes to the entrance of Jiu Fen.

Scenaries while on the train

A fine day it was, with nice people telling us exactly the bus to board when we walked out of Ruifang train station looking lost. The bus was almost filled up but we managed to squeeze in. Stood throughout the short ride, the view was good as the bus was going uphill but bad thing was the bumpy road!

If you think you might get lost, don't be. Because majority on board alights at Jiufen station.. So just follow the crowd

The view that you will get to see when you alight at the stop.

Once I reached Jiufen, it was endless eating, drinking and eating...
See to believe!

One of the first stall when entering Jiufen is this! Went in and quickly ordered without hesitation!

Yam in Ginger Soup (综合芋圆/涼粉-姜汤)

Followed by Red Yeast Taiwanese Meatballs & Assorted Flavors Pork Ball (红糟肉圆 & 貢丸)

Thirsty?? Well. Guava Juice in Doraemon bottle!!

Think it was already the end of my food eating spree?
It was just the beginning (the food is shared between me and my hubby la)

Browsing through the menu, the lady recommended Milkfish as it is one of their specialty not to be missed..

Milkfish Mee Suan (虱目魚面线)
Tasted good! the fish meat is something like cod fish (without the oil). I can go for second serving or maybe third since it tasted so light.

Wontons in chili oil sauce with Noodle (红油抄手)
Spicy but appetizing.

Oyster Omelette (蚵仔煎)
I don't remember much but I think the comments from my friends are compared to our version, this is more starchy while ours are more eggy??

After lunch, it was almost the last of my food bringe at Jiufen. Bought almost everything, we headed for the stairways that will reached bus stop. At the stop, there was a time indicator on the next bus arrival at the bus stop. Seeing it was just a few minutes more to the shuttle bus, we rejected the taxi drivers who keep coming up to us and tell us how we are going to waste time under the hot sun which we could have just enjoy a nice ride back to Taipei. But after waiting for almost 20~30mins, the bus arrived with people squeezed all the way to the back. In the end, we took a cab but not to Taipei Main Station, just back to Ruifang Train Station.
View of the Train Station

As we had some stuffs to unload, we headed back to hotel. But before that, I headed to this gyoza stall which is just around the corner at Taipei Main Station towards my hotel direction. Been craving for this gyoza since the last trip.

I bought only the original and curry flavor but in the hotel room when I ate it, it just didn't taste as nice. Maybe I should have shared with my friends afterall? haha

After a short break in hotel, we headed to Gongguan to buy Porter bag. There is an outlet that we visited in our last trip and since, they gave better rebate, we revisit. (Also, it is a good place to shop for sports apparel.)

After almost an hour (or more) at the Porter store and finally DONE buying, we went around to look for a place to rest and have dinner. Everywhere the queue has formed. We found this place where their specialty is handmade noodle but a pity I didn't take any pictures of the eatery (exhausted and hungry).

Beef Handmade Noodle (Handmade Noodle is Q and the soup is just nice, not too concentrated

After dinner, the stalls at Gongguan Night Market (公館夜市)  has started business. And well, when in Taipei, nothing can put a stop to my stomach. I saw this queue forming and I just joined in to order without any idea this is a very well known sponge cake with fillings. I highly recommend to anyone who like sponge cake or red bean or custard cream! This uncle makes an original snack so delicious that me and my friend queue and bought 3 times from him!!

After snacking at Gongguan, time to head back to hotel. As my friends are keen to get the cakes from Agnis B., we head to Qsquare mall again and this time round then I saw there is promotion after certain timing we the cake and beverage goes for a good price (don't ask me the price for I forgot already *sweat)

We ended the day with cake and coffee!!

Day 8: Taipei (Shinkong Mitsukoshi > Ximending > Shilin Night Market)
Day 9: Taipei > Taoyuan Airport

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

5th Day in Taiwan, and it marked the day for our journey back to Taipei once again.

Breakfast served at the hotel.

By foot, we dragged our luggage to the train station from hotel. The walking distance to the train station makes the decision to stay at Hotel Charming worthwhile as it was only 10 minute slow walk to the train station.

During the two days in Hualien, 2 shops' name keep popping up everywhere. 1 is Zeng Ji Mochi (曾记麻糬) and another is Amei Mochi (阿美麻糬)
Both have many varieties of Mochi and I liked 曾记麻糬 as they have freshly made mochi which has quite a few flavors to choose from (And I presumed is daily available as well) Another product I like is the sweet potato snack. But one thing to take note is their expiry date. They tasted good and is great gift the notice they can only last for 2 weeks.

A sweet potato snack that tasted so GOOD! (other flavors here)

On board on train, I had no plans to lunch in but when the call for bento purchase came, I was totally in the "eat" mode!!

The bento comes in 2 size, small and big. We bought the small ones.

Time to say goodbye to Hualien... and also my camera.
Ever since the battery got stuck, I can't remove and I can't recharge.

The remaining days in Taiwan, I got to rely on my mobile phone for taking photos...

The train to Taipei is around an hour +...

Once we reached Taipei Main Station, although it was almost a year ago, but with minimal effort, we found the way to our hotel - City Inn Branch 3 (新驛旅店台北車站三館)! Yes, we book the same hotel again because of the great location, good customer service and the cleanliness!!

After check-in and short time for relaxation, we headed for straight out for shopping!

Next Destination: Huaxi Night Market (華西街夜市) near to Longshan Temple Station
Although there are eateries inside the two lanes which indicates Huaxi Night Market, it seemed that the snacks stalls are gathered outside and parked around the streets.

Took a quick snap of the place as the stall vendors came out and the intersection became vehicles-free. Food, food and food!

Assorted parts of chicken, fried/grilled with chill pepper and salt.

Sweet Potato!

My Dinner! Cod Fish with Spagetti.

After dinner, it was food, food and more food!! Because upon back at Taipei main station and some leisure shopping around at Q-Square mall, we found...

Agnis B. cafe!

I was tempted to try their cakes and bought one back to hotel.
It's Pistachio Teddy Bear Cake. Ain't it cute!! Can't remember the exact price though...

remaining for the 4 days in Taipei for shopping and food!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
W
oke up slightly later as compared to the previous few days (since we didn't plan any trekking or sunrise trip)

Breakfast served in Hotel Charming - Hualien has slightly more choices. Was quite disappointed with the service staff on the first day of arrival and hence, we were surprised that the morning breakfast crew was all smile and very friendly which changed our impression of the Hotel.

Spend a bit of time looking around the hotel before meeting up with our driver. Don't really see the peak hour crowd though.

A while later... our tour begins.

Saw from another post about Mugu Mugi (慕谷慕魚) and wanted to come explore. Initial fears were that we couldn't enter enter (as we are required to apply permit and limited to certain number of visitors per day)... And the worse was when we reached, (due to works required), the place was closed. We could only take far view of the place.

A view at the entrance of Mugu Mugi (慕谷慕魚)

Right at the center is a electric generator which has a long history... (Can't remember much detail)... Hopefully I get the chance to revisit...

After a few photo taking, we proceeded to our next destination...

Li Yu Tan (鯉魚潭)

Li Yu Tan (鯉魚潭) name came from the shape of the place. If you take a good look, you should be able to see the shape of a Koi (or two). A nice quiet lake for a ride, especially couples... We wasn't keen though... I guess our driver must be amused that we had asked to visit the place but yet not interested in the rides. As there weather looks gloomy, we hurriedly proceed to our next destination

白鮑溪拾玉石 (bai bao xi shi yu shi)

白鮑溪拾玉石 (bai bao xi shi yu shi) is a place where unprocessed jade can be found. The place was quite empty. When we reached, there were only another group (a couple) who were there.

Loosen our shoes, roll up your jeans and step into the water!  Our driver taught us how to identify unpolished jade. The jade picking process is fun (although I didn't had much luck). And the rewarding part is the feet relief, feeling the water flow!

After our jade picking session, our driver drove us to lin tian shan restaurant (林田山豬腳)  for lunch (link here)

Although only 4 of us, the portion served was just too generous! Rice is free flow and the dishes are more than what we could finish!

After lunch, although we were quite full, but still we always have the space for desserts!
Our driver told us in the early days, this place is well known to make sweets/ice dessert? (Click here for more info)
the path to guangfu sugar factory (光復糖廠)
More info of the place here
The ice cream flavor available is a lot!! Can't rem what I had though but the pricing is quite worth while for 2 scoops. Although the main purpose was for some ice cream, there are some shops for getting souvenirs.
Our next destination, Lintian Mountain Forestry Center (林田山林業文化園區) More info of the place here

More wood art display with certain prize/placement in wood art competition

And it's our last location with our driver. This place is really nice. It's yun shan shui (云山水) More info of the place here

There is actually minsu there for booking. To enjoy the nice scenary, I would recommend going for a day or two stay.

This place is called yun shan shui (云山水) because from the place, we can have a view which consist of yun (云) - cloud, shan (山) - mountain and shui (水) - water. A really nice place.

Although it seemed like a lot of placed covered, but the whole journey took around 4/5 hours.
By 3pm+, we were already back in our hotel.

After a short rest, we first go to the Hualien train station which is less than 10 minutes from our hotel. Advised by friend's friend, we purchased our train ticket to Taipei in advance. As there are quite a lot of train routes, best is to.. ask... Or might end up taking the 10 hours train ride to Taipei. Purchasing the train tickets was surprisingly hassle-free.

From Hualien train station, we took a cab to the Hualien golden triangle shopping area (花蓮金三角商圈). Our driver had recommended us going to this main shopping area in Hualien which are three streets that coincidentally formed a triangle shape from map view, hence the name of Golden Triangle.

A view of one of the street of Hualien golden triangle shopping area (花蓮金三角商圈)
More info of the place here

Although from the map it looks quite easy to get around, but we got lost after we alight from the cab because we were trying to get to a fast food outlet but ended up touring in circles...

After quite sometime, finally manage to find some food while we make our way to KFC in Hualien!

After the exhausting dinner, I was totally worn out because of the circling... My leg was in a terrible shape and have to apply heat and medication... Could only hope will be better after some rest for tomorrow trip back to Taipei!
